For Barack Obama and for Our Nation at the Dawn of a New Era.
Hodie.
Iacta alea est.
Today.
Citizens of the world
took to the streets
Celebrating For
Today,
What seemed was once
The impossible
Today,
Came to be.
Today.
We felt it.
An electricity
An excitement
A hunger.
A sense of relief.
A sense of the burden I bore and you bore…being shouldered together.
A sense of hope
Bright warmth
Not felt in ages
The light warmed us and caressed us
Today
My ancestors laughed and cheered
While the blood in my veins danced
Inside of me.
Today.
Today.
Ghosts of past hatred faded a little more
Their grip on all of us loosened a little more
Today.
Today.
Tears cascaded
Tears of joy
Today.
Some wept tears of fear
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of
Today.
Fear of the fear we were sold
Before
today
Fear of having the fear removed
today
Lingered for some
Today.
No doubt, there is much to do
Today
There is a mountain of work for our hands.
Today
There are messes to clean and friendships to renew
Today
There are forgivenesses to be given
And much anger to quell
Today
There are wars to be fought here and there
There is peace to be found there and here.
Today.
Today.
We must take a moment to let it all sink in.
Today
A day the likes of which we have never seen before
today.
Today.
The chill does not bite as hard
Today
The colors are more brilliant
Today
The world echoes with the triumphant sounds
Of today's promise
Of today's hope
Of today's possibilities
Of today's meaning
Today.
Today
We made a choice
Today
Possibilities are endless
Today
We must promise
Today
We will work for the benefit our nation, our world.
Today.
We will no longer live in fear of the unknown
Today.
We revel in the history that comes with
Today.
We remember how far we've come
Today
We know we have a long way to go
Today.
We understand the journey still remains.
Today
Is just the beginning.
Today
One step in the right direction.
Today.
Tonight.
The stars will gleam a little brighter in the heavens;
For tomorrow,
The fight for the goodness we have found within ourselves
Today
Begins.
Iacta alea est.
Hodie.
Recipe: Dump Cake...(insert own joke here).
Why Dump Cake? It is time to dump the old attitudes and bring in a new way of thinking. You could also say...The country is tired of being dumped on.
So here's a sweet cake to celebrate the possibilities that are waiting for us...
(I found this recipe in a cookbook I picked up in South Bend, Indiana.
"Let The Good Times Roll" written by a Holy Cross sister, Sr. Karol Jackowski, C.S.C.)
This is one of my favorite cake recipes and I have made this in large quantity for the Center for The Homeless in South Bend, as well as for various family functions.
Enjoy!
Dump Cake:
1 can crushed pineapple (with juice)
1 can cherry pie filling
1 box yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter (I use Smart Balance 50/50 sticks, instead of butter.)
Dump cherry pie filling in bottom of baking dish.
Dump crushed pineapple on top of cherry pie filling.
Dump Cake mix and crumble on top of mixture.
Melt one stick of butter (or butter substitute) and slowly pour over the top...or you may cut little pats of butter and scatter them on top.
Bake at 375 F for 45 minutes.
Cool. Cut. Serve.
This cake is INCREDIBLE. I serve it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
